Hypnosis is a somatic modality of therapy. Somatic refers to working directly with the body. Trauma, overwhelm and coping mechanisms take us away from the feeling of safety in our body and continue manifesting from a dysregulated nervous system. What hypnosis does is it guides a client into the parasympathetic nervous system, out of chronic fight or flight, and by doing so restores a sense of safety and control in the body and mind. This can be used to metabolize unprocessed emotions and memories, complete incomplete stress responses, strengthen the ability to process stress and be in control. Hypnosis also provides the suggestibility to restore positive beliefs about the self and release negative feelings, beliefs, or fears we adopted as a consequence of trauma.
